This mock western town borrowed its name from the original Buckskin Joe in Park County. Among the buildings relocated in the 160-acre theme park are an old-time jail, saloon, assay office, hardware store, livery stables, opera house, and the store and post office allegedly operated by silver tycoon Horace A. W. Tabor in the original Buckskin Joe. This reconstructed main street has served as a set for Cat Ballou, The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox, and other movies. The “frontier town” is open summers only and features mock hangings, gunfights, and stagecoach and burro rides. Such Wild West attractions have been augmented in recent years by a nearby recreational vehicle park, rafting, jeeping, and helicopter tours.
