1881. 340 High St. (northeast corner of 4th Ave.)

The former high school, with its frame second story (1900) covered in pressed metal panels to resemble the Lyons sandstone of the first floor, has a belfry atop the gable roof. This L-plan structure is the largest of the historic sandstone buildings, easily visible on the hill north of Main Street (Colorado 7). In 1979 it reopened as a museum with local history exhibits, including material on some thirty local quarries.
