Built as a 16-foot-by-24-foot log building, the Wickersham house has been covered with novelty siding, probably salvaged from Fort Egbert, as have many of the log buildings in town. Located across from and behind the courthouse where he worked, Judge James Wickersham's house cost $75 for the logs and $100 for the lot. The gable roof was constructed of split logs covered with more than 1 foot of moss and sod, which has since been covered with corrugated metal. The kitchen was housed in an 8-foot-wide shed-roofed portion in the rear. The gable-roofed vestibule is curiously tucked under an extension of the roof, an original feature.
