Next to the courthouse is a public building of another kind. The well house, a two-story, wood-framed structure with a pyramidal roof and a bell tower, covers a 60-foot deep well, still used by village residents. The second floor houses a holding tank. This building was constructed in 1909, and an old well house on the north became the firehouse. The wind generator was added in 1910, and the belfry, housing a fire bell, in 1913. The building serves as a meeting place and town landmark.
