The University Club occupied this diminutive five-story Renaissance Revival building. Its small classic form contrasts with the modern commercial behemoths that today ring McPherson Square. Totten, a graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, used a pronounced cornice and a slight change in color to demarcate sharply the first two stories from the top three. At the second floor, large roundarch windows indicate the principal public and entertainment floors. When the University Club moved to the more commodious Racquet Club building on 16th Street, the interior was used as office space. Today, it houses the United Mine Workers Union.
