1984, Steven Conger. 1739 Snowmass Creek Rd.

This residential-office-research facility was built by many volunteers using local materials, organic forms, and active and passive solar systems. Physicist Amory Lovins and his wife, Hunter, a lawyer, founded the institute in 1982 to “foster the efficient and sustainable use of resources as a path to global security.” A self-guided tour features experimental utilities, solar design, and a greenhouse in a serene and contemplative communal atmosphere.
