Thomas Bowen, a lawyer, judge, and U.S. senator, built this asymmetrical, three-story dwelling of red brick trimmed with sandstone and undulating shingle. A corner tower with a bell-shaped roof, fluted chimneys, and a steep, multigabled roofline give this Queen Anne house a verticality that keeps it competitive with larger nonresidential structures downtown, where it is a rare survivor of a once elegant residential neighborhood.
