1940s, Paul Atchison. 1400 N. 5th St.

Denver architect Paul Atchison (1903–1985) specialized in Modernist, functional schools such as this. The harmonious grouping of two-story buildings in russet brick has banded jalousie windows topped by glass brick for better interior light. Covered walkways join the complex to a separate gymnasium and to an auditorium building that provides a hall for the Grand Junction Symphony.
