The Murr House, although in the Craftsman style, departs somewhat from more standard designs in being built on pilings and including bedrooms on the first floor, eliminating the foyer, and moving the stairway to the rear of the house. The Flemish bond pattern of the brick (alternating headers and stretchers in each row) creates air space for insulation within the walls. Joints between the bricks are raked to create high relief. The intersecting gables are half timbered and roofed with the original slate.
