Merchant and mill owner John S. Hough built this house, which was sold a year later to early settler Felipe Baca, a rancher and state senator. The two-story adobe house, the town's oldest residence, has characteristically thick walls but incorporates a Territorial Style frame hipped roof, pedimented windows, and shutters, and a balustraded front porch. At the rear is an adobe barn, now the Pioneer Museum. With the neighboring Bloom Mansion, it is part of a full block of property acquired in the early 1960s for a museum complex operated by the Colorado Historical Society.
