This house, approached by a long, tree-lined drive, illustrates the changing tastes of a Virginia family. The property has been owned by the politically important Robinson family and their heirs since the seventeenth century. It probably began as a single-story structure with a clipped gable roof. Early in the nineteenth century the roof forms were changed to gambrels, one of which still remains on the ell. About mid-century the front section received a second floor and a Greek Revival gable roof. Tours are offered.
