Originally named the Lower Chapel, since it served the needs of the lower (more southern) section of Christ Church Parish, the church was considered a secondary structure. Hence the walls are of English bond brick. It lacks the rubbed and gauged trim work usual in churches of the period, although a few glazed bricks do appear. The distinguishing feature of the small rectangular building (34 by 56 feet) is the jerkinhead, or clipped gable, roof, which is original, though covered by later materials. It was abandoned at disestablishment, and the Methodist church took it over in 1857. None of the interior is original.
