Roe Emory had Frank Huntington, the Grand County engineer, build the main lodge and almost 100 smaller cabins and outbuildings as the Rocky Mountain National Park resort of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad, which shuttled tourists here in motorbuses from its railheads. Sited on a forested hill overlooking Grand Lake, the 300-foot-long main lodge of logs atop a river rock foundation has a two-story sun porch with peeled log railings and posts. Inside, the original peeled log construction and trim are especially notable in the large, open-beamed lobby and dining hall.
