After a monkey from the Broadmoor Hotel menagerie bit a guest, the monkey and its companions were moved to this nearby Cheyenne Mountain site, which still maintains a lively primate population. Spencer Penrose founded this zoo, which remains privately owned. A large stone, stucco, and half-timbered lodge serves as the education center. Other structures have been built in the Pueblo Revival style, incorporating passive solar features to help warm animals in this unusual montane setting.
