The down-freight (import) warehouse, attached to the rear of the Red Building, was constructed in 1859 for handling produce. Its wide, overslung roof is an addition contemporary with the Red Building. Timber brackets supporting the roof have chamfer

cuts that eliminate their squared corners, an aesthetic detail that also served to retard the spread of fire since the corners would catch fire first. The two-story addition at the western end of the warehouse contained an office and equipment storage for track maintenance. Both warehouses originally had floors pitched in the direction that freight was transferred so that it always moved downhill. SCAD acquired the building in 1988 and it now serves as classrooms and studios.
