The 1853 carpentry shop was destroyed by fire, rebuilt in 1923, and burned again in 1984. Today only brick walls and

basement-level transverse vaults survive but they suggest that the line shaft system continued through this building at basement level to power machinery from below. The basement level now incorporates a playground as part of the Savannah Children’s Museum, which opened in 2012.
