The Red Building, now SCAD’s Eichberg Hall (acquired in 1988), housed the Central of Georgia’s engineering department. The eclectic design incorporates a blend of classical elements with a variety of materials, including the rusticated granite foundation beneath the smooth, pressed-brick facade with terra-cotta

accents, and the inset columns. The building was lengthened by fifteen bays in 1901. The interior is mostly large open-framed studios suitable for large-scale drafting, with abundant lighting from the large windows that are crowned by squares of colored glass. A two-story fireproof vault was added to the north side in 1905 to preserve the plans and drawings created here. The exterior iron shutters can be seen from the SCAD courtyard.
