1937, O. R. Walker. 2003 17th St.

This small but unusual house was designed by Lubbock architect Orville R. Walker (1898–1974) for his family. At the time of its completion the asymmetrically organized, flat-roofed, buff brick house was described in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal as “ultra modern.” It was designed to be fireproof, insect and rodent proof, and sandstorm proof, the last an important consideration on the South Plains. The Walker House was also equipped with indirect lighting and central air-conditioning.
