This superblock replaces the noble old Tabor Block (1880, Willoughby and Frank E. Edbrooke), erected by silver magnate Horace A. W. Tabor. Along the 16th Street Mall, a three-story, glazed galleria (Urban Design Group) bridges Lawrence Street with a span of shops 500 feet long. Exposed steel construction harks back to cast iron storefronts and public market structures. Behind the thirty-two-story office tower adjoining the nineteen-story Westin Hotel, at 17th and Larimer, pre-fabricated metal hindquarters mark the point where Tabor Center abandoned plans for a second, forty-story office tower after the 1983 oil crash.
