Rough-faced blocks of rhyolite make Cantril School, atop Schoolhouse Hill on a full block with a playground, a showcase for the local stone. The first courses are the rare and more precious pink stone and the upper courses are the more common gray stone. Two stories tall, the building has an irregular plan, intersecting hipped roofs, and wide, bracketed eaves. The square three-story bell tower with paired, round-arched openings in each face echoes the entry arch. A similar entry farther north serves the auditorium and meeting room addition of 1931, constructed to blend with the original. The interior has 12-foot ceilings and oak floors, wood-work, and wain-scoting. The building is one of the community's finest structures.
