A 200,000-square-foot, high-end shopping center was failing in 1984 when a large and growing congregation's plans for a new church were rejected by Greenwood Village. The solution: converting this “European-style” mall, with its rust-colored brick floors and walls, marble fountains, and Tuscan columns and wrought iron lamps, to a house of the Lord. Pastor Wallace Hickey's Happy Church purchased the mall for $7.8 million in 1989 and converted it to a spiritual supermarket.
