One of Virginia's best-known roadside delights, this walk-up restaurant, which measures 6 by 8 feet, used to stand a short distance away on Virginia 7. Designed and constructed in Glendale, a suburb of Los Angeles, of aluminum B-29 bomber fuselage parts and riveted in the same manner as an aircraft, these structures were similar, albeit at a smaller scale, to diners. An identical structure in Middleburg was demolished in 1956; the original Leesburg model was totaled by a sports car crash in 1959, and a replacement was found in Alexandria. Operated by the Castello family until 1989, it is currently undergoing restoration.
