Interesting for its use of concrete, the Anchorage Police Department Headquarters was designed by GDM and Associates of Fairbanks and completed in 1986. The two-story building is entered through its gable end, with a one-story section off to one side. The walls are clad in gray concrete, scored to resemble square tiles, and liberally trimmed with a smooth pinkish concrete. In the 1980s, colored concrete emerged as a popular material among Alaskan architects, and this building is a good example of its versatility.
