Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), this T-shaped two-story Georgian Revival building has a lower story of fieldstone while the upper story, which overhangs the lower, is of wide vertical planking. The finely crafted construction, so typical of CCC buildings, is also evident in the tall red brick chimney with its decorative brickwork. Rarely did the CCC construct a building in an urban location, but this one was designed to house administrative offices for the Ozark National Forest and local CCC staff, and the structure’s setting determined a less rustic solution than the CCC’s usual work. The building is named for a former forest administrator.
