James Dunn Houston House

James Dunn Houston House The Lyda Hill Texas Collection of Photographs in Carol M. Highsmith's America Project, Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division
1898. 619 St. Lawrence St.

Here is the climax of the Houston brothers' architectural obsession, just a short distance from his brother's residence (
SF10). James Dunn Houston, also a rancher, was evidently determined to surpass his brother and did so with a brick house instead of a frame one, but with a nearly identical composition of towers and wraparound porches. Here the porches are more dominant and the red brick and contrasting white stone trim appear to be a match for that used on the county courthouse several blocks to the west.
