1895. 621 St. George St.

This is the first of two houses built for the Houston brothers (
SF11), who evidently had a sibling architectural rivalry. The Queen Anne house with round and square towers and a wraparound porch is typical of the large late-nineteenth-century houses that are so much a feature of county-seat towns in Texas. William Buckner Houston made his money in ranching and the house is the physical expression of his status.
