The museum and arts education center is named for King, who donated the land for the school built on this site. The building served first as a high school and then from 1959 to 1973 as an elementary school. During the 1980s and 1990s a series of renovations transformed the interior to serve its new function as a museum. A massive pedimented portico with paired columns dominates the facade of this nine-bay, two-story brick building.
