A tour de force of false stone cast to resemble granite, this building utilizes the material not only for broad surfaces but also for pilasters, columns, window surrounds, lion's heads, and, best of all, a newsboy keystone. A rainbow of terra-cotta colors forms the ceiling of its recessed portico and display cases. Although only two stories high, this concrete-frame edifice was built to support an eleven-story high-rise, an unfulfilled hope based on Danville's dreams of becoming a major city.
