Hargrave is a college and military preparatory boarding school for boys affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia. It was renamed in 1925 for one of its founders, J. Hunt Hargrave. After a fire destroyed the earlier buildings, the campus was rebuilt with large three- and four-story Colonial Revival brick structures. The buildings, as is often the case for Virginia's colleges, are prominently sited on a hill and fronted by a large lawn.
