C. L. Chenoweth House

1924–1926, Carl Reger. 706 Wilson Ave. (southeast side of Wilson Ave. between Elm and Linden sts., facing Morgantown High School)

Perhaps the most individualistic of all the South Park houses, this grand Chateauesque stone mansion is covered with an expansive, many-sectioned slate roof. The studiously asymmetrical facade, with projecting one-story wings, breaks the large mass into manageable components. The effect of a French country manor is almost complete, although the closeness of neighboring houses on small lots helps dispel the allusion. The architect's grandson recalled that the house was his grandfather's pride.
