Blaker's Mill
1790s, 1985–1993, Paul D. Marshall and Associates

Originally located near Alderson in Greenbrier County, where it operated until the mid-1950s, this two-and-one-half-story frame mill was carefully taken down and rebuilt here to serve as a demonstration gristmill. Boards and stones were numbered to ensure an accurate reconstruction, and numerous volunteers assisted in the removal and reconstruction. One worker commented: “It reminded me of a big pile of Lincoln Logs, except that it was going to be a lot harder to put together.” As part of the project, a new pond and millrace were constructed to channel water to the wheels. The fascinating interior workings, a great number of them original, are now in apple-pie order. Demonstrations are usually given on summer Saturdays.
