This large brick Georgian Revival church, just across the street from Lundale Farm, is fronted by a hexastyle Ionic portico in limestone. When it was completed, the building was said to be equaled by only one other church in all of West Virginia, Charleston's Baptist Temple (
CH29). That may be a slight exaggeration, but the church, whose sanctuary seats 1,000 and whose educational wing housed ten Sunday school departments, was an impressive accomplishment by any standard. The building, which cost $125,000, was dedicated free of debt on July 4, 1926, exactly two years after the groundbreaking ceremony. The architect, from Richmond, Virginia, designed a number of similar churches, including University Baptist Church (1928) in Charlottesville, Virginia.
