The chimney is the distinguishing feature of this two-story log house with half-dovetail notching. Above a sandstone base containing the firebox within, the shaft is made of thin wooden slats held together with mud. The type was known as a cat and clay chimney. A not uncommon method of early construction, such work has virtually disappeared over the years.
