c. 1763. East side of Berkeley County 5/7, north of the intersection with Berkeley County 5 at Scrabble

A two-story, three-bay limestone house with a small one-story kitchen wing to the side, this is one of the area's earliest examples of formal Georgian design. Although its sturdy walls are laid in random rubble, proportions and details are carefully delineated. The house, built on property that Thomas Swearingen obtained in 1763 from Lord Fairfax, has a lovely wooded setting.
