Trimmed with elaborate carved stone panels commemorating the history of the printing industry, this five-story pink limestone building is remarkable especially for its art. A stone frieze carved in low relief narrates the history of the communications industry from early civilization to high-speed printing presses; carved trademarks of twenty early printers appear in stone lunettes above the third-story windows; and large panels with foliate ornament enrich the spandrels in selected bays. Pedestrians can peer through large display windows along N. 4th Street to see newspapers being printed on huge high-speed presses. Another, newer printing-press room is visible from the sidewalk in an addition built in 1962 at the southwest corner of N. Old World 3rd and W. State streets.
