Patterned shingles immediately identify the Queen Anne style, but this charming cottage is more impressive for its rounded porch, bristling with spindlework in the Eastlake mode. There are curved brackets, turned columns, dentils, a pierced frieze, a knob-and-reel frieze, knob pendants, a cutout balustrade with spindle details, and a cutout screen along the foundation. The Blumers purchased the Monroe Brewery (now the Joseph Huber Brewing Company) about the same time they had this house built.
