One of these is a modest Greek Revival house, the other an equally modest one-and-one-halfstory side-gabled house with central chimney, old-fashioned for its date, with the narrowest of transoms over its plain (and rebuilt) door, clapboarded in front and otherwise shingled. Both were owned by freed black slaves, members of what became an important blacksmithing family in the area, with a forge in continuous operation into the 1920s.
