This long-time tavern and hotel was a stage stop on the run from West Kingston to Narragansett Pier until competition from the railroad shut it down in 1877. The establishment began as a five-bay, central-chimney Federal house (to the right), the rest added sometime later and the entrance porch probably much later. Diagonally behind the tavern-hotel is the barn for the stage (1825), converted to a house in 1947. Several pleasant but modified buildings are next in line.
