c. 1870, George Champlin Mason, Sr.

Although it now seems to turn away from its street access, this large, mid-block house was sited facing east to the ocean on a large parcel of land. Its massive three-and-one-half-story mansarded volume is relieved by a polygonal tower on its north side and by elaborately stacked porches on the east, visible from Cliff Avenue. The first-story porch wraps around to the south side of the building, while ornately carved braces and crossed stick structures on the uppermost gable give the front a showy ornamentality whose liveliness would be appropriate for a seaside villa and whose stylistic references were typical for a Mason design of the 1860s.
