1882, Bruce Price. c. 1980s, alterations to south side. 55 Hunter Ave.

In this early design by Bruce Price, we see him approaching the shingled, organic compositions that he created at Tuxedo Park and on which he established his reputation as one of the progenitors of the Shingle Style. Here, details of half-timbered gables, mullioned window groupings, and turned posts inspired by early colonial furniture mark a transition between the bracketed cottage of the 1870s, later Colonial Revival impulses, and the more integrated, organic unity of his work throughout the 1880s.
