c. 1928. 401 Thomas Jefferson Hwy.

Built as one of the first consolidated black high schools in Virginia and the first secondary school for African Americans in Charlotte County, this one-story Colonial Revival brick building with grouped windows has a hipped-roof central section with flat-roofed wings. Pilasters support a segmental arch that frames the recessed entrance with its double doors. On the right is a flat-roofed attached gymnasium/auditorium and to the left rear is a detached annex that was used for agricultural education. The Reverend James Murray Jeffress, principal of the Charlotte Court House public school and founder of the Grand United Order of Moses (CT8), was instrumental in raising money for the school. David K. E. Bruce was a major donor.
