The foursquare entry block of this hotel was designed by Newporter George Champlin Mason as a residence in Middletown. It was moved across the bay (on two barges) and altered with a thirty-room annex to the north. While Mason's characteristic roofline is still apparent, much below it has been changed with enclosed porch work and window alterations. It is notable mainly as a surviving example of the large-scale wood-frame hotels once popular on Jamestown, as well as for its eponymous trip across the bay.
