1748. 6023 Germantown Ave.

Germantown Avenue is of interest for its mix of high- and middle-style houses that share material and features such as ashlar front and rubble sides. This was built as the home of Daniel Pastorius, grandson of the founder of Germantown, Francis Daniel Pastorius, and his wife, Sarah (DPS 1748 on the datestone). Its subtly asymmetrical exterior with an overhanging pent eave are carryovers from German design. Its later use as a tavern attests to the role of Germantown Avenue in the transportation of the region.
