“Lynnewood Hall” is Horace Trumbauer's monument to the Widener family fortune that started the migration of the vast wealth of Philadelphia's N. Broad Street to the northern suburbs. With its immense portico fronting its palatial limestone facade, Lynnewood is a spectacular English Georgian country seat that in the late afternoon sun has the look of decayed grandeur of English gentry. In recent years, its present owner, the Faith Theological Seminary, has sold off most of the interior fittings in preparation for its demolition.
