Now the headquarters of the Dauphin County Historical Society, the earliest portions were the house of the founder of the ferry across the Susquehanna. It is a workmanlike country Georgian building that was enlarged in 1863 to serve the Pennsylvania Female Seminary and again later when it was the home of Simon Cameron, U.S. senator and Abraham Lincoln's first secretary of war. The Victorian porch is part of that transformation.
