Pufferbelly Restaurant is an excellent example of adaptive reuse and the advantage of a good location at the midpoint between two of the city's largest downtown employers. Simple corbeling, pilaster strips, a stone lintel course, and recessed panels highlight its rounded entrance bay. The city's oldest remaining firehouse, built in 1903 (428 Chestnut Street), also was adapted for a new use: in 1975 it became the Firefighters Historical Museum. It is a simple maroon brick building with a handsome paneled chimney on its W. 4th Street elevation.
