It is unusual to find a market house still operating in the middle of town, one that opens at six in the morning to sell produce and baked goods year-round. A second story was added to the market between 1916 and 1917, which, from 1975, has housed both the Meadville Council on the Arts and a performance space. The simple gable-roofed, brick rectangular structure has an open-air gallery on all sides. Windows line each elevation; those on the first story are round arched, while the upper-story windows are rectangular. Next door at 900–902 Market Street, Keppler's Hotel (c. 1870, renovated 2006), a three-story red brick structure with a two-story porch on the facade, further illustrates the commercial viability of the town's older buildings.
