This Masonic Temple is affiliated with the system of degrees called the York Rite. Designed by a New Castle firm, the temple's limestone Greek Revival facade is capped by a fully ornamented pediment with the Masonic symbol at its center. The meeting rooms are meant to be exotic and to transport the members from their everyday lives, thus they are on the upper floors with windows above eye level to minimize distractions and keep down street noises. The Greek key–patterned cornice above the first-story storefront was also used by Edward B. Lee in his design for the Butler Eagle newspaper (
BU4). Multiple Masonic chapters serving hundreds of members use the building as their headquarters.
