At the heart of this fifty-acre site is the nineteenth-century Maharg family farm and its brick, two-story house that once had a two-story porch oriented toward PA 8, the main highway. A nearly perfect cube, the hipped-roof house has been updated several times since its purchase in 1921 by the Phillips family. When Margaret Phillips and her husband, Craig Succop, took possession of the house in 1934 after their marriage, they made some changes, and then sixteen years later, commissioned Brandon Smith to reorient the entrance and add modern conveniences. Margaret grew up in The Mansion (
BU13), east of the Conservancy, and had a special attachment to the farm. Her son donated the land to the Butler County Community College in 2001.

A large frame Pennsylvania bank barn remains on the complex, and is to be used along with the greenhouse, former chicken hatchery, and rental house as educational buildings for the Conservancy. The grounds will be used for hiking trails, environmental education, and event rentals.
