This brick building housed the first accredited high school in the county, consolidating and replacing many of the area's small frame schoolhouses. With federal funding from the Smith-Hughes Act of 1917 that promoted vocational education, this school was doubled in size in the 1920s so that it could increase the space allotted to agricultural studies. The school is also significant as the birthplace on April 30, 1927, of the Future Farmers of Virginia club for boys enrolled in agriculture classes. At a meeting in Kansas City in 1928, students from eighteen states formed the Future Farmers of America. The school is composed of two sections, each with pedimented porches and a louvered cupola on the roof ridge. Closed in 1994, the school's building is now occupied by a ministry supply company.
